(NC)-- During my most recent visit to Varadero, I found myself sipping a mojito at an old mahogany bar, scented with just a hint of that sweet, rich aroma of a Montecristo cigar, and I began to reflect on the many features which bring me back to this alluring island again and again. Rediscovering an old favourite is every bit as enjoyable as discovering a new one.
First of all, Varadero has some of the finest soft, white sand beaches in the world. I feel a sense of calm and comfort the moment my toes sink into its flour-soft sand and I gaze out onto that enormous blue canvas on which I will paint my holiday memories. Each time I visit Cuba, I take the short 90 minute excursion into Havana, arguably the most beautiful city in the world. In the distance, as delicate as a wish, I can just make out the haunting rhythms of an African drum dancing with a Spanish guitar. This is a world that time forgot, but I never will.
