Varadero: Rediscovering an Old Favorite PDF  | Print |  E-mail
(NC)-- During my most recent visit to Varadero, I found myself sipping a mojito at an old mahogany bar, scented with just a hint of that sweet, rich aroma of a Montecristo cigar, and I began to reflect on the many features which bring me back to this alluring island again and again. Rediscovering an old favourite is every bit as enjoyable as discovering a new one.

First of all, Varadero has some of the finest soft, white sand beaches in the world. I feel a sense of calm and comfort the moment my toes sink into its flour-soft sand and I gaze out onto that enormous blue canvas on which I will paint my holiday memories. Whether you like to dive into the ocean or a good book, there's no better place to do it then from Varadero Beach.

Each time I visit Cuba, I take the short 90 minute excursion into Havana, arguably the most beautiful city in the world. I feel like Humphrey Bogart from Casablanca as I wind my way along cobble stone streets with big boat-like 1950's chevys anchored at the curb, massive colonial style buildings and open air taverns dishing up hot fricassees and hotter salsa music. In the distance, as delicate as a wish, I can just make out the haunting rhythms of an African drum dancing with a Spanish guitar. This is a world that time forgot, but I never will.

I love the resorts. From Paradisus Varadero, a heavenly oasis for couples and honeymooners to TRYP Peninsula Varadero, with its fun Kids Club and where one child even stays and eats free, to the grand Barcelo Marina Palace where guests of the Transat Holidays' Prestige Club receive special, exclusive extras, Varadero resorts know how to deliver world class service. You'll find luxurious spa facilities, gourmet dining, Vegas-style entertainment and first-class amenities. Varadero is where old-fashioned service marries ultra-modern facilities.

The people really make the destination. How do you put a price on sincerity? Having travelled extensively, I am always pleasantly surprised by the incredible warmth and openness that greets me from the moment I arrive. Varadero is as generous with its warmhearted smiles and friendly greetings as it is with sunshine and sea breezes. It's as though the golden Caribbean sun shines through the beaming grins and sparkling eyes of the locals.

I've saved price until last because it's the least important factor when you consider a trip to Varadero. Regardless of what you pay-and there is truly the perfect resort for every budget and lifestyle-you'll get all of the features noted above. Whether you choose to stay in a modest three star like the Gran Caribe Club Puntarena or a deluxe five star resort, you'll find beaches that will warm your toes, culture that will warm your soul and people that will warm your heart.

Varadero awaits you. You need only choose the date for your next vacation. For information on these resorts, and many others, visit transatholidays.com. I'm sure you'll have a good time!
